Russian diplomatic sources contain traces of the “Lithuanina version” of the Battle of Warsaw of July 28–30, 1656, which differ significantly from the well-known Swedish, Polish and Brandenburgian descriptions of the event. This suggests that these less-known descriptions reflect the perception of the battle by the Lithuanina nobility and its tendency to position Lithuania after 1656 in opposition to both Poland and Russia. The impossibility of following this “third way” during the ongoing war led to this attitude disappearing relatively quickly, hence its absence in other known primary sources. The article analyzes the most detailed description of the battle of Warsaw and the events following it authored by prominent Lithuanian nobles, Y. Glebovich, Y. Khrapovitsky and others. The text itself is published as an appendix.
