The monograph by Bulgarian researcher Alexander Petrov explores the translation of substandard vocabulary, phraseology, idiomatic expressions, and expressive means from Russian into Bulgarian. Translating such elements consistently poses significant challenges. The terminological framework used in translation studies for the Bulgarian-Russian language pair often lacks strict equivalents, and comparative scholarly works on the subject remain extremely rare. A. Petrov’s monograph makes a substantial contribution to the systematization and refinement of both translation terminology and the terminology used to describe substandard language. The analysis of linguistic material drawn from the works of Viktor Pelevin and their Bulgarian translations vividly illustrates the specific nature of such translation work.
